Sissie was the kind of grandmother everyone wished they had, and I was lucky enough to borrow her through my first cousins. During my freshman year of college, I lived with Rob and Laurie, and anytime there was a trip to their home in Vicksburg, Mississippi—whether they went alone or I tagged along—Sissie made sure we never returned empty‑handed. Without fail, she sent us back with a pan of her Peanut Butter Rice Krispie Treats.
For years I thought the recipe had disappeared with her passing. Then, while digging through my family cookbook, there it was—tucked between handwritten notes and memories. Finding it felt like uncovering a little piece of her again.
It had to be one of the first recipes I documented. Making it brought back the sweetest memories of a wonderful time in my life and an even more wonderful Sissie.
