Two Beans and a Pea
To cheese or not to cheese — you already know my answer. I found this quirky little recipe in the Big Blue Book, and while I don’t remember eating these growing up, they instantly reminded me of Krystal or White Castle sliders. The original said NO CHEESE, but life’s too short for that rule. These cozy burgers are a rainy‑day lifesaver and a guaranteed husband‑impressing dinner. Mine certainly didn’t mind taste‑testing more than a few. And if you want a laugh, check out my IG video below — you can practically hear the sizzle.
Forget the canned sauce—these Homemade Sloppy Joes are pure nostalgia in every single bite! 🤤 Ground beef is browned to perfection and simmered in a rich, savory sauce with garlic, yellow mustard, Worcestershire, and just a hint of brown sugar for the ultimate flavor balance. Served warm on toasted, fluffy buns with melted American cheese, this 35-minute recipe will quickly become a weeknight favorite for the whole family!
Spicy, lemony and healthy to boot! Full of flavor Turkey meatballs, you can also sub Chicken or Ground Beef, your preference.
This recipe is my little homage to Mimi’s famous cutlets — the ones everyone in the family loved. I’ve made a few small changes over the years: I add Parmesan right into the breading station, and I use avocado oil instead of Mimi’s trusty Crisco. It’s a nod to heart health, but the flavor still sings.
Tourtière is a classic French‑Canadian meat pie from Quebec, traditionally served around Christmas and New Year’s. Your version keeps the cozy, savory spirit of the dish but adds more seasoning and personality — very Two Beans and a Pea.
Lemon Mustard Chicken is a quick, flavorful weeknight dish where boneless, skinless chicken breasts are coated in a tangy blend of Dijon and whole-grain mustard, fresh lemon juice and zest, garlic, olive oil, and a touch of honey. The chicken is seared in an oven-safe skillet until golden, then finished in a 400°F oven for 15–18 minutes until cooked through. It's ready in about 35 minutes, serves 4, and is garnished with fresh thyme and lemon slices for a bright, elegant finish. Bone-in thighs and legs can be swapped in for a richer result — just allow extra bake time.
Our Tuesday night ZA tradition. My husband loves pizza and we have it down to a science. Personalize how you want it and let your imagination go!
My Mom's Mother had a little bit of Italian in her enough to claim this recipe as a family favorite and true Italian "gravy". Good thing I married a mostly Italian American man- he loves my sauce.
Hearty, healthy and a great way to use up lonely veggies!
